Addtional notes: The Local Pilots get paid flight allowance which is not paid to expats, hence the LOCAL pilots end up earning more than an EXPAT pilot, you also fly 100 hours per month without fail and on overtime that is what is expected out of you for your monthly salary. Because ARIK is a one man operation there is no union or protection for the pilots....many Expat pilots have gone on rotation and their salaries have been stopped until they return. because the airline lose so many expats when they go on rotation they have started suspending your salary until you return. UPDATE: Arik Air only has three ex Nigeria Airways pilots flying for them, all of them left Nigeria Airways, 15 years. They joined Arik from other private airlines. As for the Gecat assessment process, no one was offered a job who was not put forward by Gecat. The only exception to the assessment process, were Pilots who were B733 type rated, who were Nigerian, and all were ex Virgin Nigeria Airways pilots, who went through the Gecat process, to get the Virgin Nigeria Job, in the first place, and went through the B733 type rating course at Gecat. Living in Lagos, under armed guard is par for the course, the crime situation is getting better in Lagos. Pilots who come here know that this is not a western european city. A few expat pilots have been flushed out who presented themselves as Captains, and actually had no command experience. The policy is that if you are an expat type rated, you are put through a recurrent, at Ariks expense, if you are successful you are offered a job.
